Exciting Weekend Events in Metro Detroit (Sept. 8 – Sept. 10)

Guess what? The fun of fall is here, but there are still some cool summer events happening around metro Detroit.

This weekend, you can enjoy some tasty treats like apples, cider, and doughnuts, or you can groove to some music and soak in the local culture at various festivals in the area.

Here are seven fun things to do in Detroit:

  1. Art & Apples Festival
    • When: Friday 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Where: Rochester Municipal Park at 400 6th Street in Rochester
    • What’s Happening: If you’re craving apples, the Art & Apples Festival is back! There will be over 200 fine art displays, delicious food vendors, live entertainment, art demos, and creative activities for everyone in Rochester.
  2. Detroit Vegan and Detroit Foodie Fair
    • When: Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • Where: Eastern Market Shed 5
    • What’s Happening: Food lovers, get ready! Eastern Market is the place to be on Sunday for both the Detroit Vegan and Detroit Foodie Fair.
  3. Michigan Donut & Cider Fest
    • When: Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • Where: Canterbury Village behind the Canterbury Castle at 2325 Joslyn Road in Lake Orion
    • What’s Happening: Dive into the spirit of Michigan at the Michigan Donut & Cider Fest. In addition to cider and fresh doughnuts, there’s a petting zoo, a kid’s zone, and live music to keep the whole family entertained.
  4. Oakland County Irish Fest
    • When: Friday 5 p.m. until midnight and Saturday 11 a.m. to midnight
    • Where: 12 Mile Road in downtown Berkley
    • What’s Happening: If you’re interested in adding some culture to your weekend, head to Berkley for the Oakland County Irish Fest. You can kick off the fun on Friday with Scottish Night and enjoy Irish music, dancing, and artisan vendors on Saturday.
  5. Parktoberfest
    • When: Saturday noon to 9 p.m. and Sunday noon to 7 p.m.
    • Where: Campus Martius Park at 800 Woodward Avenue in Detroit
    • What’s Happening: Campus Martius Park is hosting Parktoberfest, a German-themed festival featuring live music, food trucks, traditional Oktoberfest games, and beer. Kids can even make ice cream floats, and you might score a $5 lottery ticket from the Michigan Lottery!
  6. Richmond Good Old Days Festival
    • When: Thursday 6 p.m. to dusk, Friday 1 p.m. to dusk, Saturday 10 a.m. to dusk, and Sunday 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
    • Where: 69500 Beebe Street in Richmond
    • What’s Happening: If you’re not quite ready to let go of summer, head over to the Richmond Good Old Days Festival starting on Thursday. There’s a packed schedule of events, including a carnival, motor sports, kids’ activities, and delicious food. Don’t miss the fireworks on Saturday night and the Sunday parade.
  7. Smokin’ Jazz & Barbecue Blues Festival
    • When: Friday and Saturday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
    • Where: Mt. Brighton Ski Resort at 4141 Bauer Road in Brighton
    • What’s Happening: The summer vibes continue in Brighton at the Smokin’ Jazz & Barbecue Blues Festival. You can savor mouthwatering dishes like ribs, beef brisket, and sweet treats. This year, the barbecue action is happening at Mt. Brighton, with four bands playing on both nights.
